Summer Preparation

Now that the Memorial Day weekend is behind us and everyone is roaring into the summer season, it’s time for associations and their property managers to start thinking about snow.

At CPM we pride ourselves on being proactive with our properties rather than reactive.  Yes, it does take some detailed, longer range planning.  However, it does virtually eliminate that “running around last minute” syndrome that is all too common with many communities.

How Communities Should Prepare During the Summer Months:

  • June/July – Start Talking About Snow Prep

In the early spring managers should have made note of what worked and what didn’t with their snow clearing process.  Note any changes that need to be made for next season and, if necessary, discuss these with your vendor or add these adjustments to your RFP.  This will ensure everyone is on the same page when the first flakes fly.

  • June/July- Start Talking About Closing Your Pool

Now that most pools have been open for a few weeks, it’s time to start planning how to shut them down at the end of the season.  Get on the schedule with your maintenance company for end of season shut down and cleaning.  Do it now and it will be one less thing to think about.

  • July- Put Out An Article About Storm Preparation

With the hurricane season around the corner you want all owners to know proper procedures and safety preparations.

Finally…
Is your community ready for emergencies?

Do you have an Emergency Book from your managing agent?  We believe that this is an essential document for every community and a valuable reference for everyone involved in the management of the association.  The last thing you want to be doing is “winging it” if the unexpected happens.

Your property manager and their team should have created one for your community that covers the most common issues.

However, if they didn’t, or simply don’t know how, email me and I can give you a sneak peek of ours – which we’ve developed over the past twenty years.
